Ahh! Armillaris luteobobolina! You can eat them, they are great in a risotto. But remember to always cook them well, for even slightly raw, they will burn the whole way down...
These are one of a my favourite mushrooms. They kill trees, by wrapping their mycelium around them until the tree dies.
Then, they live from the dead wood for up to ten years. That's why aborists dislike them so much.
But to drive along or wander a path and find them in a huge clump, is mushroom gold for me!

That is so interesting ST. I see a lot of mushrooms out on walks with the poodles and would like to know which ones are edible, I guess just a good book will identify them.
