I was out in the Great Western Woodlands last year. We climbed many a granite island in that sea of wilderness, and there atop were many a calothamnus type species with root systems that had once searched for the barest of soil and water. They stretched out serpentine-like and appeared ancient in their quests. I love going to such places. I love that sense that one has of the ages that is so clearly evident. Special places.
