Kart boolaarang, kart-moorr nidja yaarkiny, baalap kwopidaa, aali borongaa nidja ngoorndiny... and by the way, how is your Noongar language learning? Going well I hope! Great to see another posting by you - lovely photos!
Thanks Tim, language learning is slow...been intermittently searching for the Noongar dictionary by Rose Whitehurst to no avail...is harder to track down than I anticipated...
Work is consuming...gone are the days of scouring second hand bookshops at leisure... Must give Serendipity a call as I have a lot of homework to do :P
Ok Tim djurrepiny that something else is consuming me now...sleuthing is fun but not conducive to getting the washing done! Kart (Is this different spelling for kaat?) boolaarang - ?is like bool-barang magically carried away, kart-moorr - strong mind? this yaarkiny- standing/being baalap (? )kwopidaa (?good ) aali- there nidja -this borangaar (skin group - ritual being) ngoorndiny - sleeping...
Kart boolarang means heads/hills boolarang/many - a great many, kart moorr relates to the 'blue' hills, or kart moorn as in 'dark hills' nidja/here yaarkiny/standing. Baalap/they kwopidaa/beautiful. And aali means 'there' borongaa means the eldest brothers, and in this context totem/dreaming ancestors... nidja/here ngoorndiny/laying. And that word 'djurrepiny' is a unique word. It describes in a way a continuing state of happiness. Now yok, I am sure your moort in the south would love you to learn their language, especially with your respect and love for them you so obviously reveal through your writings and photos.
